Homestake Lode (Avalon Westerns)
Published in Hardcover by Avalon (October, 2001)
Author: G. Sam Carr
Average review score:

A Good Read
If your idea of the "badlands" is places like Jalalabad, Islamabad and Feyzabad, you'll enjoy reading this book and getting in touch with the original American Badlands.
The book is set in the Black Hills of South Dakota during the gold rush, when George Hearst was owner of the Homestake mine. Hearst is one of the characters, though unlike William Randolph Hearst in Orson Welles's Citizen Kane, he is not the central character--yet he plays an important role. Author George Carr depicts the elder Hearst's actions and personality with historic accuracy.
The central characters are a redhead who arrives in Deadwood having anwered an ad seeking actresses, only to find herself trapped in a house of ill repute, and a Clint-Eastwood-like detective for Wells Fargo who still mourns his murdered wife. The environment and turbulent times are rendered with such verisimilitude as to constitute a third character, as though the author knew them intimately. Indeed, the dust jacket tells us Mr. Carr spent his formative years in the area.
The story is filled with complication and surprise, with some minor characters playing such vital parts as to win the reader's heart. The books's tone evokes Zane Grey and Louis L'Amour, with a touch of Raymond Chandler and of a current writer for Harlequin, Barbara Bretton. The blend of adventure, danger and romance is just right.
With characters speaking in their own authentic voices in the midst of historically-known events, the reader is transported and lives in that earlier time. I kept this book at my bedside and, for a night or two, lost sleep.

The Homestake Lode is a load of fun
G. Sam Carr's "Homestake Lode" is a lively western with a plot that moves along from crisis to crisis like a runaway six-horse team. Carr paints the beauty of the still wild American West through his fine descriptions and the reader becomes privy to the wheeling and dealing of mine owners, stake claimers and saloon keepers. Especially enjoyable is how Carr weaves historical characters, George Hearst for one, and Samuel Clemens for another, into the plot giving it a rich and lively sense of time and place in that undisciplined yet developing period of the late 19th century. The male/female love interest between the lively lass, Kelly Ryan, and Wells Fargo Detective Tuck Powells, is kept in a state of will-they-or-won't they, up to the last exciting page. Western lover or not, don't miss this one.

Lights of Love
If you want to read a romance that will leave your heart feeling good inside and out, this is the romance book for you. The story of Mike and Nancy with a touch of the celebration of Hanukkah and a bit of mystery is a wonderful story. A story of a love that has been lingering for years and is finally awakened once again. When Nancy sees Mike again you know there has to be true love buried there only to soon awaken. The way they slowly find this love again is wonderfully written. This book deserves a five stars. Can hardly wait to read the next book by Ms. Denholtz. You will not be disappointed in this book.

The light never completely extinguished
Both Mike and Nancy thought their love was buried in cold ashes; but there was a burning ember hiding deep in their hearts, waiting to be rekindled when they realized they had never actually fallen out of love.
A delightfully sweet love story with just a touch of intrigue. Looking forward to the next book from this writer.

Love brings light
Ms. Denholtz weaves her love story through the customs of Hanukkah which makes both even more interesting.

Nancy Gardner has made a successful life for herself and believes she has forgotten about Mike Powers, her first love. Her certainty is shaken when she goes home for the holidays and finds Mike every place she goes. As much as she tries to fight it, she finally has to accept love and the risks involved.

Ms. Denholtz is a talented writer with the ability to combine this lovely holiday with the faith of her characters.

I look forward to her next book.

Moon Metro New York -- What a star!
I decided to bring Moon Metro New York City with me on my first trip to the Big Apple. I couldn't have made a better decision! This guidebook never failed me once in my travels through the city. I loved how easy it was to read, the colorful pages, the insightful descriptions, and the pocketbook size. I'm going to make sure my next vacation will be a destination that Moon Metro covers! Avalon Travel Publishing and Moon Metro New York City deserve five stars.

Best guidebook I've ever used, period.
I've used lots of different travel guides in the past but have always been disappointed with something about them, so I usually end up bringing two or three books with me, which [stinks] big time. That's why I really like these Metro books. Small, chock full of info the I need, and easy to use. Besides the cool blue covers, what really makes them stand out is the foldout maps. I've used the SF and NYC Metros and regretted buying the Fodors and Let's Gos. Save yourself some luggage space, time, and money and pick up one of these books instead of a pile of the others.

Great guide!
I've never written one of these reviews before, but after using Moon Metro: New York City on my last trip, I simply had to say how helpful it was. The maps were fantastic and made a city that was new to me incredibly accessible. My friends and I picked several restaurants and shops at random from the book and were never disappointed. The reviews were right on. I fell in love with New York and I can honestly say my experience would not have been the same without this guide.

Rumor Has It (Avalon Romance)

Sweet, Warm, and Satisfying
What a wonderful, romantic tale. I adored this story so much I picked up the author's other titles: And Then Came You, written as Connie Keenan, and Salsa Kiss, written as Consuelo Vazquez. She is an author to watch no matter what name she writes under. I'll buy every book she writes!

Touching!
This story was so lovely. The relationship between Royce and his two sons, his love for Samantha that changes both of their lives - it was just wonderful!

Great!. Easy Reading and enjoyable storyline.
The reader is immediately caught up in the life of Royce Blondell. Falling in love is so sweet.

The Serpent Power: 2 Works on Laya-Yoga
Published in Paperback by Dover Pubns (June, 1974)
Authors: Arthur Avalon and John George Woodroffe
Average review score:

No better book on the subject has come out since.
This book stands head and shoulders above every book on the subject that has come out since, especially the recent glut of "new age" fluff books. (Hint: never subscribe to a philosophy with a name that rhymes with "sewage.")

On Point
This book is one of the more sophisticated of the books that deals with this topic. Givin in a traditional fashion that could be annoted only to such a scholar, and pioneer, as John Woodroffe. The detail is uncompairable and unless you have a solid understanding for the language and representations, it is a hard read.

The best work on Kundalini in English
This work will bring the reader into the power of Devatma Shakti Kundalini just by reading and pondering the text. Old feelings will find a home in the transformation from experience to understanding as the book flows forward. Gentle delight is the mark of a true Tantric text and this book, although strange and difficult at times, is pure de-light. If you want to know about Chakras and such, this is a classic text by one who really knows. Old and grand, this is a favorite treasure of mine and one I give away regularly to friends who must have more. Lam-to-Aum... Riley Jackson

The Tycoon and the Schoolteacher
If you have yet to read a book by Ms Burton, you don't know what you are missing. This lovely lady tells stories that keep you turning every page. Never do you want to put the book down nor do you ever want it to end. They are stories that you wish to continue on and on. And the next day you awake still having those characters inside your head. I fell in love with Brenda and Alex and kept wondering when the two were going to come to their senses and finally get together. I loved the way that Alex would go to the school to see her and help out with her activities. This was a love story; one that everyone should read. This is a five stars two thumbs up book!! An incredible writer, another incredible story. I would recommend this sweet love story to one and all. It was so wonderful!!

The Tycoon and the Schoolteacher
I just finished reading The Tycoon and it was great. The descriptions of the couple's conflicting thoughts are wonderful. The inclusion of many time elements make it so much more exciting. I couldn't put the book down.

THE TYCOON AND THE SCHOOLTEACHER
I found this book to be a page-turner. The characters were likable, the conflict believable and the content interesting. I like the way the one antique care was woven into the story. When I reached the end of the story, I wanted to read more but it had ended! I recommend this sweet romance to all.

The Yard Rose : An Avalon Romance
Published in Hardcover by Thomas Bouregy & Co (October, 2000)
Author: Carolyn Brown
Average review score:

"The Yard Rose" roots run deep
The roots of Glory and Quaid's blossoming love in "The Yard Rose" by Carolyn Brown run deep. Their tumultutous twister of a relationship has the reader captivated from the first fight over the flowers. I highly recommend all of Carolyn Brown's books.

The Yard Rose
Who can ever forget that first love, even at seven years old? Glory Flowers sure didn't. She never forgot the episode with the flowers or anything. Even at seven love can be agonizing and when you grow older, miserable, but it is there and never fades. Glory and Quaid were meant to be together. But separations and many winded arguments kept them apart. When they are finally able to get together, they finally see that they indeed were meant to be together. When disaster strikes, causing Glory to lose her most valuable possession that has reminded her of Quaid all these years, she soon discovers that she really hasn't lost but found the one person that she wants to live with for the rest of her life, her one true love. The Yard Rose is a tender love story, yet strong. I cried, I laughed, I grabbed tissues. I loved this book. Ms Brown has a way of writing that puts you right there inside the book with the characters. There were times I wanted to knock Rachel to the other side of the world, with Milly right along with her. The Yard Rose is a book that deserves ten stars plus and two thumbs up. If you haven't read this book, you really should read it. You will not be disappointed!!!! I have read it twice and still love it!

The Yard Rose
This author loves to write about small Oklahoma towns! This book is set in Terral, Oklahoma. I lived there as a young child...it looked exactly like she describes it! Glory and Quaid's love story is a powerful one! I felt like I was right there--I laughed. I cried! I got angry! How dare that Rachel even look at Glory's Quaid! I love a book that starts with action and holds my interest. I want to FEEL the characters emotions, not be told them. When I finish a book I want to care about the characters. The Yard Rose is such a book! Wish there was a sequel...

All The Way From Texas - An Avalon Romance
Published in Hardcover by Avalon Books (24 June, 2000)
Author: Carolyn Brown
Average review score:

A Well-Traveled Love in "All the Way from Texas"
Molly and Carson's friendship and eventually love begins to grow with each mile they travel in "All the Way from Texas." Carolyn Brown makes the reader want to hop in the car and continue the travels with her in her many romances and historical romances with Avalon Books.

All The Way From Texas
If you ever wanted to read a story about traveling, then you should reach for this book. From the first page all the way to the last you will be surrounded by a road trip that Carolyn Brown has given her readers moments to pause as they travel from Texas to Canada and back. Even a trip to Alaska as Carolyn paints us the whale with the snow and gray skies in the back ground. It was breathtaking when we read about Niagara Falls but when the couple get to Alaska, the moments of pause and beauty are picturesque. Ms Brown delivers another wonderful story from the beginning about the 'cow patty' to Carson losing a bet at pool to cooking breakfast. This book is terrific. The conversation between Molly and Carson draws you right in their midst.
I loved the part where every time they traveled and stopped, they were asked where they were from by the difference in the way they spoke. Who doesnt't get that when they travel?
From the long awaited kiss after the mind bantering while they were eating the Taco's was wonderful. Not to mention how their muscles ached from all their traveling. You are there with the two every step of the way.
Beth and Darrin deserved to be together. A lot of people like that in this world. Molly never needed anyone like that man in her life.
Carson and Molly will be characters in my mind always whenever I travel the open roads.
Ms Brown shared the open road in picturesque beauty with the characters and moments that she wrote in this another wonderful book that deserves a ten plus. It's a keeper!!!

Artic Legacy
This is a fascinating book about a young woman's search for her father who has disappeared in Alaska. In addition to the mystery there is romance involved. The story is fiction but the locale is authentic and you will know more about Alaska after reading the book. There are some surprises and you will enjoy reading this novel as well as other books by these authors.

This book was exciting and appealing.
I've always wanted to go to Alaska and reading this book was just like being there. Arctic Legacy is exciting! I enjoyed the fast action and the appealing characters.
